8 tips & tricks to prevent falling in the winter

Do you find yourself cancelling important plans due to residual snow after a storm? Here are 8 tips and tricks to reduce fall risk during the winter time so you can still get everywhere you need to go.

  1. Make sure to wear boots that have good traction. Avoid wearing slippers, flats or old shoes, they can easily slip on the ice!
  2. Always have your hands free, that way you can grab onto railings for support!
  3. Walk like a penguin! Take small, controlled steps to keep your weight over your body to avoid slipping.
  4. Slow down and stay aware! Scan the area for black ice before walking.
  5. Make sure you have both feet on the ground before getting out of the car.
  6. Use non-slip mats near the doorways to avoid slipping on melted snow!
  7. Walk in well lit and salted areas whenever possible.
  8. Always have your phone on you to call for help if needed!
