Furnace Brook Physical Therapy is pleased to announce that they will now be providing Physical Therapy for Post-Concussion Syndrome. This new program will compliment Furnace Brook’s other specialty programs, including Lymphedema and High-Risk Falls.
“Concussion is a prevalent topic in the media today,” says Mike Wezel, DPT, FAAOMPT the director of the Post Concussion program at Furnace Brook. “Most concussions will get better with rest and won’t require any other treatment. When symptoms last longer than expected physical therapy can play a role in recovery.”
Patients presenting to physical therapy with post-concussion syndrome will receive a customized physical therapy treatment program to address symptoms of imbalance, headaches, dizziness, and neck pain. A team approach with the referring physician is necessary to best manage recovery. Treatments may include musculoskeletal therapy, eye exercises, balance exercises, and graded functional training for return to sport. “Every patient with concussion will progress at their own pace. The overall goal is to manage each patient back to their prior level of function as safely as possible and reduce the risk of future concussions.”
